September SKI day hike
Most people are just now thinking about winter. The nights are cool and the leaves have started to give us their highlight on the season with some nice colors. Mountain peaks have already had their first dusting of snow.
I’m not thinking that its almost winter, I’m living the endless winter dream this year. September marks the ninth month in a row I have skied within approx 75 miles of my house. Every month after May it gets harder and harder. This months trip was a typical late summer hike for making some turns.
The day started out at 6:00 a.m. leaving home and heading towards the trail head. Amy, Sonny and myself departed from the trail head at 7:30 a.m. and started our 9+ mile climb up 5,300 vertical feet to reach the Gunsight Mountain’s north facing snowfields.
We did around 20 miles on this trip. Climbed up 5,300 and dropped 5,300 in about 13 hours. All this for about 800 vertical feet of nice September snow. Well worth it and I will have to hit it back up this winter or next year.
Enjoy the pictures and feel free to comment or request to come on the next trek.
