Altoona Ridge Lodge ski trip

The other day I got an invite from Greg Fortin & Mike Harrleson to shoot at Altoona Ridge Lodge just south of Missoula. I only had 16 hours to pack and get down there for our snowmobile ride in to the lodge that sits 5 miles up a dead end road around 7,500 feet with just a short skin to the ridge behind the lodge. This place is a must visit for any skier, hiker, climber or folks that just want a few days of rest in remote mountains off the grid. I have been to yurts, forest service cabins, etc… this place stands out from all those. Altoona Lodge has three main buildings, sleeping, dinning and sauna/shower.

Here are some of my images from this trip. I can’t wait to get back down there this spring or next winter. If you want to read about this place check out what The Spokesman-Review’s Rich Landers had to say about it.

Photos are all (C) Craig Moore/GlacierWorld.com 2012 All Rights Reserved.

***Still having blog tech issues with captions displaying – so in these pictures are: Lodge owner Denison von Maur, guide James Pyke,  Mike Harrelson, Andrija Barker, Rich Landers and Greg Fortin. The pay phone shot is the Boulder Creek VFW, its another few miles past this you find the trail head to Altoona. On the way out we saw a massive slash fire next to a big boat on the side of road, you never know what your going to see in Montana….

Well done, Senor Moore. Some fine pictures in the mix. Looks like I should have postponed my departure and gotten out with you fellas that last morning. A wee bit of blower, yes?

Mike, you totally should have stuck around for the AM powder lap. It was great! Greg and I had fun following your line down the ski out. Cheers

Alex, you can book this place year round. It would be a great place to fish in the summer too. Craig
